The Best AI Website Builder
Wix is the best AI website builder for most people: it builds a full site with booking or store features from one prompt and lets you keep editing by chat or drag-and-drop. Squarespace is the runner-up for design-led sites, Hostinger is cheapest if you plan for its renewal price, and Webflow is the upgrade for full design control.
The Research Score rates each product on its own merits. Our picks also weigh price and who the product is for, so a pick can rank above a higher-scoring product. How we score
Every big website builder now has an AI that will draft a site from a sentence about your business. That first draft is the easy part. What separates the good builders is what happens next: whether you can change anything you like, whether the site can take bookings or sell products, what it costs in year two once the introductory deal and the free domain run out, and whether you can ever take your site somewhere else.
For most small businesses and personal sites, we recommend Wix. Its AI generates a complete site with features matched to your business type, such as a store or a booking system, and you can keep editing by chatting with its AI agent or by dragging elements around. Squarespace is the runner-up if design polish matters most. Hostinger is the cheapest way to get online, but its low price requires paying for up to four years up front, and it renews at several times the starting rate. Webflow is the upgrade pick for designers and teams who want full control and the option to export code. If you want to build an app rather than a website, see our guide to the best AI coding assistant.
We considered 12 AI website builders and app builders for this guide. We read their pricing pages line by line, including the fine print on introductory terms, free domains and renewals, plus help-center articles on exporting and privacy policies on AI training. Where a company’s own pricing page wouldn’t show us US prices, we say so and name the source we relied on instead. Every pick is scored with our published Research Score. We did not build test sites for this guide.
Who this is for
This guide is for small businesses, freelancers, creators and anyone who needs a real website (pages, maybe a blog, bookings or a small store) without hiring a designer. If you want a custom web app with logins and a database, an AI app builder is the better fit; see our best AI coding assistant guide. For other everyday AI tools, see the best AI tools for small business.
How we picked
What the AI actually generates: a full multi-page site with working features, or just a homepage draft.
Editing freedom after the AI is done: by chat, by drag-and-drop, or both.
SEO basics: editable page titles and descriptions, alt text and audits.
E-commerce: which plan you need to sell, and the transaction fees.
Total yearly cost, including the domain and the renewal price after any introductory deal.
Export and lock-in: whether you can take your site with you.
Privacy: what each company says about training AI on your content.
Candidates we considered: Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger Website Builder, Webflow, Framer, Durable, 10Web, GoDaddy Airo, Canva Websites, Lovable, Bolt and v0.
Watch the renewal price
Introductory prices are the most common trap in this category. Three things to check before you buy: whether the low monthly price requires paying several years up front (Hostinger’s does), what the plan renews at, and whether the “free domain” is free for one year only (it is at Wix, Squarespace and Hostinger). A site that costs $30 in year one can cost $130 or more in year five.
Top pick · The best AI website builder for most people
W
Wix
7.5/10
Builds a full site with store, booking or blog features from one prompt, then lets you edit by chat or drag-and-drop.
Wix’s AI website builder does more than write a homepage. According to Wix, you describe your site in a prompt and it generates a complete site with layout, copy and visuals plus “industry-specific logic”: product galleries, payments and inventory for a store; scheduling, bookings and lead forms for a service business; ticketing or RSVPs for events. That’s the main reason it’s our top pick. A site that can already take bookings is much more useful than a pretty template.
Editing freedom is the other reason. Wix says you can keep changing the site by describing what you want to Aria, its built-in AI agent, or by adjusting any element by hand with drag-and-drop editing, with layouts staying responsive across devices. Wix lists other agents too, including an AI Marketing Agent and a Front Desk Agent. You can start for free without a credit card; a custom domain and online payments need a paid plan.
Wix’s own plans page told us that prices and currency vary by location and showed only reference prices, so we relied on WebsiteBuilderExpert’s US breakdown (updated September 15, 2026): Light costs $17 a month billed annually ($204 a year) or $24 billed monthly, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 a month billed annually. You need at least Core to sell products or services.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
Lock-in is the big catch. Wix’s help center says you can’t export a Wix site to another host because it “must run on Wix’s servers.” You can connect a domain you bought elsewhere, but if you ever leave, you rebuild.
Watch year two. Wix’s plans page says the free domain voucher applies only to a first-time Premium purchase, must be redeemed within 60 days, and can’t be used to renew a domain; the 14-day money-back guarantee covers only the initial upgrade. WebsiteBuilderExpert estimates the .com renewal at about $21.35 a year after that. On privacy, Wix’s policy says it uses AI tools to provide its services and that third-party AI providers it shares personal data with may not use it to train their models, but it doesn’t say clearly whether Wix trains its own models on your content.
Who it’s for
Small businesses, freelancers and hobbyists who want a working site fast and the freedom to change every detail later.
Who should skip it
You might want to move your site to another host one day, or you need the lowest possible price.
Pros
AI builds business features to match your site type: stores, bookings, lead forms, galleries
Edit by talking to the Aria AI agent or by hand, down to the pixel
Free plan to start, no credit card required
Wix says third-party AI providers are contractually barred from training on your data
Cons
You can't export a Wix site; it must run on Wix's servers
Free domain voucher covers only the first year of a first-time purchase
Selling requires at least the Core plan ($29/month billed annually, per WebsiteBuilderExpert)

S
Squarespace
6.8/10
Blueprint AI builds a polished starting site step by step, with strong built-in commerce and AI writing tools.
Squarespace’s AI is built around getting the look right. Its help center describes Blueprint AI Builder, which builds a custom site template step by step from the Templates page, and Blueprint AI Templates, which put three AI-generated templates at the top of your search results. You can also start from Squarespace’s GPT inside ChatGPT, which passes your business name, type, personality and goals to Blueprint.
After the first draft, Squarespace’s AI keeps helping: it drafts or rewrites text in text blocks, blog posts, product descriptions and email campaigns, and can generate SEO descriptions and image alt text. Image Studio generates or reshoots images, and an AI chat that edits images, text, products and styles was rolling out in waves. Squarespace says it works with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google for these features, and warns you not to publish AI text you wouldn’t have written yourself.
Commerce is built in on every plan, with unlimited products, gift cards, subscriptions, abandoned-cart recovery and point-of-sale. The Basic plan charges a 2% online store fee; Core, Plus and Advanced charge 0%. AI credits scale by plan: 10 one-time on Basic, then 20, 40 and 120 a month.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
Some commerce basics are surprisingly locked away. According to Squarespace’s pricing page, discounts, payment plans and Google Shopping listings are “Not included” on Basic, Core and Plus; you need Advanced. The free domain covers the first year on annual plans, after which it renews at Squarespace’s standard rate.
Exporting is limited. Squarespace’s help center says exports come only as a WordPress-format XML file, and that store pages, product, audio and video blocks, style settings and custom CSS don’t export. Its pricing page showed us euro prices rather than US prices, so we’ve left the dollar amounts out; check the current price in your region.
Who it’s for
Creatives, restaurants, studios and small shops that care most about a refined look.
Who should skip it
You want discount codes on a cheap plan, or you want to be able to move your store elsewhere later.
Pros
Blueprint AI builds a custom site template step by step
AI writing for pages, blog posts, product descriptions, SEO descriptions and alt text
0% online store fee from the Core plan up
14-day free trial
Cons
Discounts, payment plans and Google Shopping listings only on the top Advanced plan
Exports are limited; store pages and product blocks don't export
Its pricing page showed us euro prices, not US dollars

HW
Hostinger Website Builder
6.8/10
An AI builder with prompt-based and drag-and-drop modes at a very low introductory price, paid up front.
Hostinger is the cheapest serious option, and it’s honest about the catch if you read the small print. Its website builder page lists the Premium plan at $2.49 a month, but you pay $119.52 for 48 months up front, and the plan “renews at $10.99/mo for the same term.” The Unlimited plan, the cheapest one with e-commerce, costs $167.52 for 48 months ($3.49 a month) and renews at $16.99 a month. Hostinger says all plans are paid up front; the monthly figure is just the total divided by the months.
Here’s what that means over time. Premium works out to about $29.88 a year for the first four years, then $131.88 a year after renewal. Unlimited goes from about $41.88 a year to $203.88. Even the renewal prices undercut many rivals, which is why it’s still our budget pick, but budget for the second number, not the first.
The AI builder has two modes: a manual drag-and-drop editor and an agentic mode that builds websites and web apps from prompts. Hostinger’s FAQ says you can describe your business and the builder will create a starting site, and it lists an AI logo maker, AI writer and AI SEO assistant. Each plan includes a free domain for the first year, and Hostinger advertises 0% transaction fees and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
The renewal jump is steep, and the free domain only covers year one; the page doesn’t say what the domain costs after that. Long prepaid terms also make it costly to change your mind after the money-back window.
Leaving is painful. Hostinger’s help center describes moving builder content to another platform as a manual process of copying text and saving images, and says Hostinger e-commerce store data, including products, isn’t included. On privacy, Hostinger’s policy is written under GDPR and says AI service providers process data on its behalf under contract, but it doesn’t clearly say whether builder content is used for AI training.
Who it’s for
Budget-conscious personal sites, side projects and small shops willing to prepay for several years.
Who should skip it
You want monthly billing, or you expect to move your site to another platform later.
Pros
Introductory price from $2.49/month on a 48-month term
AI builder creates a starting site from a description; agentic mode can build web apps
Free domain for the first year and 0% transaction fees
Even at renewal, cheaper than most rivals' entry plans
Cons
Renews at $10.99/month, more than four times the intro price
All plans are paid up front for the full term
No export: moving away means copying text and images by hand

W
Webflow
8.1/10
A professional builder with an AI site builder, AI-generated code components and code export, at clear US prices.
Webflow is a professional design tool with AI layered on, rather than an AI tool with a design layer. Its AI page lists an AI site builder for people without design or technical experience, plus AI that modifies page designs, generates copy and CMS items, builds React code components you can then edit visually, generates new page sections from your site’s design system (in beta), and runs site-wide SEO and AEO audits. Webflow’s MCP server also connects your site to AI tools like Claude, so you can make changes through a chat.
Its pricing is the clearest we found. Site plans are listed in US dollars per site: Basic costs $15 a month billed yearly ($25 billed monthly) and includes a custom domain, 300 static pages and 10GB of bandwidth. Premium, which adds the CMS for blogs and other dynamic content, costs $25 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly). Online stores need a separate Ecommerce plan: Standard is $29 a month billed yearly ($42 monthly) for 500 items with a 2% transaction fee, and Plus is $74 a month billed yearly with no transaction fee. Webflow AI is included on every plan, including the free Starter plan.
Webflow is also the most open of our picks. Paid Workspace plans can export clean HTML and CSS, and Webflow says it uses vendors including OpenAI and Anthropic but doesn’t use customer data to train any generative AI models.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
You get control, and with it complexity. Webflow’s AI can produce a first draft, but you’ll get the most from Webflow if you’re comfortable with design concepts like layouts and components.
Costs stack up: a blog needs Premium, a store needs an Ecommerce plan, and Webflow’s pricing page doesn’t list a free domain, so register one separately. Code export is limited too: Webflow says dynamic CMS items and pages can’t be exported, and export needs a paid Workspace plan on top of your Site plan.
Who it’s for
Designers, agencies and growing businesses that want pixel-level control, a strong CMS and a way out.
Who should skip it
You want the AI to do everything for you, or you're on a tight budget.
Pros
AI site builder plus AI for copy, CMS items, React code components and SEO audits
Clear USD pricing: Basic $15/month, CMS from $25/month billed yearly
Says it doesn't use customer data to train generative AI models
Code export (HTML and CSS) on paid Workspace plans
Cons
Steeper learning curve than Wix or Squarespace
E-commerce costs extra: from $29/month yearly, with a 2% fee on Standard
No free domain listed; CMS content can't be exported

Other good options
For designers who think in Figma: Framer. Framer’s AI agent creates editable pages, sections, copy and visuals in your project and can build CMS collections, code components and SEO fixes. Paid site plans cost $10 a month (Basic, 30 pages) or $30 a month (Pro, 150 pages), with agent credits included and a complimentary domain on yearly billing. The free plan doesn’t allow a custom domain. Framer’s help center says it doesn’t offer HTML export for self-hosting, and its pages don’t mention a built-in store, so it’s best for marketing and portfolio sites.
For the fastest one-prompt site for a service business: Durable. Durable’s free plan puts a site online on a free subdomain with 300 AI credits and a simple CRM for up to 10 customers. Paid plans (Launch at $25 a month and Grow at $49 a month on monthly billing, with about 15% off yearly) include a free custom domain and AI tools for blog posts, social posts and replies to leads and reviews. Durable says it isn’t designed specifically for e-commerce.
The competition
10Web: An AI builder on top of WordPress, which gives you a full WordPress install. Its AI Starter plan costs $120 for the first 12 months, against a regular price of $240, and the pricing page doesn’t spell out renewal terms. The first custom domain is free up to $30.
GoDaddy Airo: GoDaddy’s AI builder. GoDaddy’s US pages didn’t load for us from our research location, so we couldn’t verify its plans or renewal prices.
Canva Websites: We’d only consider it for a simple one-page site if you already design everything in Canva; our picks go further on stores, bookings and content management.
Lovable, Bolt and v0: AI app builders that generate code from prompts. Lovable’s free plan includes five build credits a day (up to 30 a month) and says you own the code you build. They’re better for apps than for business websites; see our AI coding assistant guide.
What to look forward to
Builders are moving from one-time site generation to ongoing AI agents: Wix’s Aria, Squarespace’s AI chat (still rolling out in waves) and Webflow’s MCP connection to tools like Claude all let you keep editing by conversation. We’ll update this guide as those mature and as prices change.
FAQ
What is the best free AI website builder?
Wix has a free plan with its AI builder and no credit card required, but you need a paid plan for a custom domain and online payments. Webflow’s free Starter plan includes Webflow AI and two static pages on a webflow.io address, and Durable’s free plan publishes a site on a free subdomain with 300 AI credits.
How much does an AI website builder really cost per year?
Plan for the year-two price, not the promo. Wix Light costs about $204 a year billed annually, plus a domain renewal after the first free year. Webflow Basic is $180 a year billed yearly, plus a domain. Hostinger’s Premium plan costs $119.52 for four years up front, then renews at $10.99 a month.
Can I move my AI-built website to another host?
Usually not easily. Wix sites must run on Wix’s servers, Framer doesn’t offer HTML export, Hostinger’s builder content has to be copied by hand, and Squarespace exports only some content as a WordPress file. Webflow is the exception among our picks: paid Workspace plans can export HTML and CSS, though not CMS content.
Are AI website builders good for SEO?
They cover the basics. Squarespace can generate SEO descriptions and image alt text, Webflow runs AI-assisted SEO and AEO audits, and Hostinger includes an AI SEO assistant. Good content and a fast, well-structured site still matter more than any one tool.
Should I use an AI app builder like Lovable instead?
Only if you need an app, such as a tool with user accounts and a database. For a business website with pages, a blog or a store, a website builder is simpler. See our guide to the best AI coding assistant for app builders.
